Once you have located your group of choice go in and make some connections.  This is where the fun begins.  I always request to be friends by starting off with a message.  “Hey I noticed we were both here for networking, and thought it would be nice if we could share ideas and strategies”.  Most people will connect with you if you have similar interests, and you let them know why your looking to connect with them.

The next step after you have mastered the art of making friends on facebook would be to start joining common interest groups.  Think of this as networking in a room at a social gathering, and going into every little cluster of people and introducing yourself.  The great thing about facebook though is once your a member of the group you leave a permanent footprint (your picture) that stays in the group so people know your there even if your not online.  This benefits you two fold.  When others look to connect with like minded individuals they go into groups and will request you as a friend when they see you in the group, and now you build your friend connections on autopilot, and since your in the group you get to add valuable content to the group but more about that later.  Once I started leveraging groups there was not a day that went by that I did not receive a friend request.  This is great to start building up your contact list of perspective business partners up on autopilot!!!

The last step in the equation would be to do the exact same thing that you are doing in your group, providing valuable content in the form of adds on the walls of the groups that you are currently in. This step does not have to be last it can actually be one of the first things you start to do. Providing valuable content is actually what you should be doing at all times.
